Our AI Safety Fellowship is an eight-week program exploring the key challenges in AI safety, from technical risks to policy implications

Designed for those looking to build a strong foundation in the field, it offers a broad yet insightful introduction to the landscape of AI alignment and governance

  • Participants can expect to earn a well-versed understanding of modern machine learning methods, and how these methods can lead to potential threats to humanity.

    We hope that every participant leaves the programme with a deeper understanding and appreciation for the issue of aligning artificial intelligence with our core values, as well as ideas for projects that can help make the algorithms around us safer and more equitable

  • Participants are expected to commit to five weekly sessions, which last around one hour. Additionally, there may be reading required outside of these sessions (amounting to around three hours a week).

  • While this course isn’t maths-heavy, participants are expected to have at least a high-school-level understanding of mathematics.

  • No prior knowledge of Effective Altruism is required.

  • Applications are typically opened a few weeks before the start of each semester. You can apply through the EA Manchester website by filling out the online form. The selection process is usually straightforward and aims to include those most interested in the material.

  • The selection process is simple and designed to gauge your interest and commitment. It involves answering a few questions about your motivations for joining the program and your background.

  • Absolutely! There are many ways to stay involved with EA Manchester after completing the program, such as completing the Intro or In-Depth Program, attending speaker events and socials, or even joining our committee.
